Asset Four - Acrylic Paint Tube

One of Six Assets to be completed for Task One in Modelling to Camera.

Out of the Six Assets for Task One, this was one of the more challenging for me. In comparison to the rest, this one required a lot more attention to detail which I tried to accomplish to the best of my abilities.

The most difficult part was using the Difference Boolean tool to create a hole in a polygon. I really struggled to get the positioning correct. At times it was not centered, and at other points it was rotated slightly to not match up with the reference; and trying to understand this new tool I selected the wrong order of objects, so each time the Boolean would work I received a back facing object which was a polygon the shape of the hole and the paint tube portion would disappear. After some troubleshooting, I realised I had to select the main object first then the Polygons that would create the hole. It became easier afterwards, but I don’t believe I have quite grasped it as efficiently as I would hope.

I found the Bridge Tool as an efficient method to create unique polygons: using a cylinder in the shape of a hexagon and a cuboid which represents the flattened part to form the actual tube itself. In addition, the Fill Hole option after deleting the Hexagon Polygon as the other end of the Bridge.

Despite some of the issues I did face during the making of this asset, I am quite pleased with how this asset turned out; specifically the flattened part which I struggled with the Booleans.
