Film Shot Three -
"The Truman Show" (2021)
One of three Film Poses for Task Two for Modelling to Camera.

Despite this being the least complicated film shot, I found this slightly frustrating. For context, I chose this shot for the fact it was live action, and a rather interesting composition to work with based on the environment and one person necessary for staging.

The reason why this was frustrating was the creation of the modelling of the stairs. I used a cube: made several subdivision axes to form the shape of the stairs, and deleted each face one at a time. Using the Multi-Cut Tool, I created new edges to define the shape of the stairs. However, the error in the staircase was user error; I missed a few stair edges to cut, and when Bevelling the object it caused several visual errors. I undid the bevelling, redid the cuts on the missing stairs, and the object was fixed.
For the background, I used Plane Polygons for the hinges and the background, and used a Cube Polygon for the door. The character rig was fairly close to the start position when the rig is referenced into Maya, so slight tweaks were necessary for the pose. The issue with the shot was the lack of colour: since the staircase and the background were the same colour, the staircase blended into the background. So I chose blue hue to mimic the scene's background to clearly distinguish between the background and the stairs.
Overall, I am extremely happy with how this one turned out. Albeit frustrating, but very worth it in the end. Especially since this allowed me to translate a live action reference to 3D recreation, and how to create assets, scenes, and images based on references: a necessary method to convey ideas with understanding life in live action.
