Task Three: Bouncing Ball Animation (on the Spot - Rubber)
In this task, I had several revelations about animation. Firstly, a deformed shape doesn’t mean illogical visuals, but rather at times is more convincing. During this task, the usage of squash and stretch to convey the “bounce” of the ball, the ball had to be deformed on several frames to the extent where it lost its original shape.
I initially found it very difficult to believe this until I compared the Animation Playblasts with and without the Squash & Stretch. That was when I had my next revelation: animation is not about how realistic the objects are, but instead how convincing and believable they are.
Principles of Animation Recognised: Squash & Stretch, Keys & Breakdown, Pose to Pose, Timing & Spacing & Easing, Exaggeration, Slow In & Slow Out.
